Hello, friends! I was trying a totally different work setup yesterday and did not have all my usual tabs open as I do on my desktop. Between that and having no sense of time, I completely forgot that yesterday was a Thursday! My apologies.
I am super excited for Free RPG Day tomorrow tho! I’ve signed up to play in a few slots at my friendly local game store, Game Kastle College Park, and might have a few copies of my books available to sell there too. There’s also a panel being held at 1pm by some of the cool folks at Designed In The DMV. Let me hype it up a little by including the promo text here:
This Seminar Runs from 1:15pm to 1:45pm.
Designed in the DMV promotes local game design in the DC-Maryland-Virginia area. We'll talk about the joys of designing RPGs, how to get started, and how we try to support local designers, players, game stores, and the rest of the RPG ecosystem. Whether you're a published designer, looking to make your first game, or just have some neat houserules to share, stop on by!
It’s really going to be the closest to a convention that I’ll be able to attend this year, and I’m so grateful to the people who are making it all possible, especially since it’s entirely free! I’m definitely looking forward to spending some cash at Game Kastle tho, to support them as I can.
Hopefully, the weather and electrical grid hold up, too. We have been having some serious Weather here in the DMV. My Little Free Library was nearly felled, and this poor tree elsewhere in the neighborhood was entirely uprooted:

I ran out into the rain, ofc, to make sure that the books weren’t getting soggy. An engineering friend has assured me that if my LFL has stood for this long, then I definitely sank in the support post deeply enough when I was first setting it up. It’s hard not to second guess myself tho while standing in the rain, shoving and kicking the structure back into place. It’s not 100% back to true yet, but the interior has remained dry and I’m keeping a constant eye on it.
I’m also keeping an eye out on my website The Frumious Consortium, as I finally figured out how to turn on Google ads there! I don’t know if I love the layout, tbh, and whether I need to make tweaks to make it less in-your-face. I do know that I’m excited to be able to defray hosting costs, finally. If only other people were as willing to be paid in books as I am, lololsob.
Speaking of books, I really enjoyed Bellamy Rose’s Pomona Afton Can So Solve A Murder this week. Modeled after the quietly resilient Paris Hilton, our title character finds herself homeless and poor after the family matriarch Marion Afton is murdered. Marion’s heirs are all cast out to their own devices until they can solve the murder. But they have only a year to do it, before they’re stripped of their inheritances for good. Part murder mystery, part rom-com, this coming-of-age tale was filled with both heart and humor. Hopefully, Ms Rose has a sequel or two in store for us soon!
Oh, and before I leave, let me share this dance video I’ve been High Key Obsessed with these past few days:
My shoulder hurts just watching it, but it really makes me want to get back into dance — tho probably not to the point of letting my old choreographer know, lol. Maybe I’ll just restart my solo dance sessions, or rope my kids in to teach them some basics. I’ve actually put all performing on hold for the month, in (probably vain) hope that doing so will help me catch up with my work schedule. Which I’m off to pursue once more, so see you in six, friends!
